I was invited as a keynote speaker to a conference in Saint Petersburg, Russia which was organized by the Sociological Institute, the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is the Fifth International Research Conference Mechanisms for Formation of Cultural Exclusion and Frontier Zones. I represented my research (and book) on Holocaust humor, satire and parody in Israel and the organizers are checking the possibility to translate the book into Russian. At the conference I’ve learned more about the horrible siege of Leningrad and about the Gulag system. It is a city of numerous palaces and beautiful gardens and now I know how to write my name in Cyrillic letters.
הוזמנתי כמרצה ראשית לכנס בסנט פטרסבורג:Mechanisms for Formation of Cultural Exclusion and Frontier Zones מארגני הכנס חברי ה- Sociological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences קראו את הספר שלי על אודות הומור שואה בישראל וביקשו להציג את זה בפני המשתתפים שהביעו עניין רב ורוצים לתרגם את הספר לרוסית. למדתי על המצור המחריד על העיר במלחמת העולם השניה, ועל עולם הגולאגים. בסנט פטרסבורג יש מספר עצום של ארמונות, רבים לא מדברים אנגלית (כולל צעירים. באוניברסיטה זה שונה, אם כי היו שהקשיבו להרצאה שלי עם תרגום סימולטני לרוסית ושאלו אותי ברוסית ואז אני הקשבתי לתרגום הסימולטני כדי לענות) ובמקומות רבים אין שילוט והסברים באנגלית. יש הבדלים מטורפים במחירים (פלפל חריף אחד טבול בסוכר במעדניה בה מנגן פסנתרן – 30 ₪. ארוחת צהרים בקפיטריה של האוניברסיטה – 7 ₪). העיקר: עכשיו אני יודעת איך כותבים את השם שלי באותיות קיריליות.
