I was invited to give a talk at the International Conference The PUBLIC in Public and Applied History in the beautiful city of Wrocław, Poland. I talked about the way “Remembrance in the living room” ceremonies had changed the ceremonial performative acts of the Israeli Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day. We also drove to the museum of the Gross-Rosen work camp and visited Osówka– the unbelievable underground city the Nazis had carved under the mountains in Lower Silesia, in which they presumably asked to host scientists that will develop a nuclear bomb.
הוזמנתי להרצות בכנס The PUBLIC in Public and Applied History בורוצלב, פולין. דיברתי על הדרך בה "זכרון בסלון" שינה את דפוסי הטקסים ביום הזכרון לשואה ולגבורה. ורוצלב היא עיר מקסימה, לכל אורכה ניתן למצוא מאות פסלים של גמדים (שנבנו כסמל לעצמאות לאחר תקופת הקומוניזם). ביקרנו במחנה העבודה (לשעבר) גרוס-רוזן (מקום מצמרר) וב Osówka – עיר תת קרקעית מופרעת לגמרי שהנאצים חצבו לעצמם מתחת להרים בשלזיה תחתית. העיר נועדה לאכלס 20,000 איש ובעיקר כנראה עבור מדענים שיפתחו עבורם נשק אטומי.
