The Comeback of Jewish Diaspora in Israeli culture

The article analyses the changes in the perception and representation of "Hagalut" ["The Diaspora"] in Israeli culture in the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. The opening will discuss the ambivalence in Eretz-Israeli culture, and from 1948 until the 1960s in Israeli culture towards the diaspora. The prominent part of the article discusses the changes since the 1960s in the attitude towards the roots of the Jews in the eastern and western parts of the world, and their representation as a source of Nostalgia and an integral part of the Israelis' identities.

מאמר זה יעסוק בייצוג הגלות בתרבות העברית החילונית. בראשיתו תתואר ההתמודדות התרבותית האמביוולנטית עם הגלות בתחילת המאה ה-20 בארץ-ישראל. ייסקרו הניסיונות להתנער מסממני הגלות לצד הרצון לשמר אותם כחלק מן התרבות החדשה. חלק הארי של המאמר יעמוד על השינויים שחלו בעשורים האחרונים בייצוג הגלות בתרבות הישראלית ויציג את הפיכתה מאלמנט הכולל בו־זמנית יחס של דחייה ומשיכה למקור נוסטלגיה, לחלק אינטגרלי מהזהות האישית ואף מודל לחיקוי בספרות, בתאטרון, בטלוויזיה, בקולנוע ובאמנות.
