The threefold exile - the female Holocaust survivor in Israeli cinema

The article analyses the problematic image of women Holocaust survivors in Israeli culture and cinema. It claims that the negative image which appeared in the first decades of the Israeli state did not change in Israeli cinema when Holocaust remembrance changed in Israel. Even from the 1980s onwards the vast majority of women Holocaust survivors' representations are based on three negative concepts: the prostitute, the mentally ill and the unfit mother.
