The Image of the Sabra in ‘He went in the fields'

Liat Steir-Livny 2007

The image of Uri, the protagonist of the famous book, play and film "He went through the fields", is perceived in Israeli culture as the essence of the handsome young, brave "Sabra." In this article I claim that Uri's image in the film "He went through the fields" can be analyzed in a completely different way. The analysis will show that the cinematic Uri is not a brave heroic man, but a confused man-child, who fails wherever he turns and leads himself to his tragic death.
